Does this kit suit 4x4s and campervans?

Yes. The Roof Rack Kit is designed for vehicles with a standard roof rack—common on Australian 4x4s and campervans running aftermarket racks such as Rhino-Rack, Thule, or ARB. The mounting brackets clamp directly to the rack crossbars using the supplied hardware or the proprietory hardware of the roof rack manufacturer, so no drilling or roof penetration is required.

Non-penetrating mount — no roof holes

Because the kit attaches entirely to your rack, it is a non-penetrating solution. Your vehicle's roof and any existing insulation or lining remain undisturbed. This makes it suitable for rentals, campervans with factory roof insulation, and vehicles where maintaining a weatherproof roof seal is critical.

Surface material & weather resistance

316 marine-grade stainless steel with a powder-coated black finish provides corrosion resistance suited to Australian coastal and outback conditions. The Starlink Mini dish itself is rated for outdoor use by SpaceX; consult Starlink's documentation for the dish's environmental specifications.

Antenna orientation

The Starshield Mount positions the Starlink Mini at a fixed angle. For best satellite acquisition, Starlink recommends the dish have a clear view of the sky with minimal obstructions above the horizon. Avoid mounting positions where the dish faces directly downward or is heavily shaded by roof-rack accessories such as awnings or lightbars. Refer to the Starlink app's obstruction tool to confirm field-of-view at your chosen mounting point before installation.

Expected limitations

• Requires a roof rack already fitted to the vehicle — not compatible with bare roof rails or gutterless roof sheets without an adapter.
• Rack crossbar width and profile must be within the bracket adjustment range; verify dimensions against the installation instructions supplied with the kit.
• The Starshield Mount and Starlink Mini dish are sold separately.
  

When the pole-clamp alternative is more appropriate

If your vehicle does not have a roof rack, or you need to mount the dish on a caravan A-frame, fence post, mast, or vertical pole, a pole-clamp mount is a better fit than this kit. The Roof Rack Kit is optimised specifically for horizontal crossbar mounting on an existing rack structure.
